Seasonal Greetings from Thailand
May we wish you a very happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year!
We are both fine and are keeping busy. The recession of course is still having an impact here, although our sales in the past three months have been trending upward.
The political turmoil here in Thailand continues, with the ousted prime minister, Thaksin Shinawattra, still trying his level best to create division in the country.
On the good news front, our home in Khao Yai is now finished where we stay every weekend, driving up on a Friday evening and retuning on a Monday morning. So, it’s great to have my weekends back where I’ve been able to recommence golf and I’m even cycling again.
The business of producing promotional clothing has over the years become more complex where clients are always seeking a new look, a new style or something different and as a result our Polos are more complex to produce.
It’s a real headache for Yuphalai who must undertake the regular re-design work, deal with all the various suppliers and meet pressing deadlines. The main problem facing Yuphalai is that when she leaves the business even for a few days, things get out of shape quickly and it’s a case of – when Boss away, Thai mice play.
So when the reward (be that happiness at work and/or a financial return) no longer adequately covers the time, effort and stress involved, like other times throughout your working life, you just have to say – enough is enough!
So our plan over the next six months is to simplify the clothing business, be more choosey about what work we do, and so instead of selling approximately 350 different clothing projects annually, our focus will turn to selling things in much smaller quantities – I mean three of four things a year!
As we reduce the clothing business activity we intend building and selling a small number of houses in Khao Yai each year - just like the home we created for ourselves. We have already purchased two additional plots of land to do just that and our plan is to commence building at least one before the end of this year.
When we sell our office/packing facility and remaining condo in the centre of BKK, we then intend purchasing a larger piece of land enabling us to build our own small village of approximately twelve unique homes.
With this change in career direction, by employing a trusted builder (if there ever is such a thing) we can afford to take more time out where my personal objective is to have sufficient time to be able to visit Scotland for a couple of weeks each year and also get back on the slopes on this side of the world in either Japan or Korea.
Yuphalai is happy to visit Scotland, but she’s less keen on the skiing malarkey and is quite happy to stay in Khao Yai with Canal our dog. Canal hasn’t changed a bit; sometimes she’s lovely, sometimes she’s naughty – but always fun to have around.
I have at last included some internal shots of our newly built home in Khao Yai and I’m sure you will agree Yuphalai’s input in the furnishing and decoration department is clear for all to see.
So, we bid you farewell and look forward to speaking to you soon.
Love and best wishes from David and Yuphalai

Although we are next to the road, it's a 'B' class road and so it's quiet and primarily used by locals.
